Why are Ag Day Animals Important

Ag Day is Brookby Schools major community event each year. Every child in Brookby School is expected to raise a pig, chicken, calf, goat or lamb for this event.

The reason why every child in the School is expected to raise an animal is to learn how to be responsible. Firstly with your animal you need to feed them, give them water and find a place for them to sleep.

secondly if you have a chicken you might want to pick them up and let them perch on your arm and hug them each time you see them because each Ag Day you have a task for your animal. For the goats and lambs your is to teach them to basically get used to you because when you call their name they are supposed to you not wander off.

Lastly when it is September you bring your animal to school to show the judges on the field what your task was. When (you get judged on the field.) There will be judges giving out ribbons, there will also be 1st, 2nd and 3rd ribbons. At the very end there is a parade. For the parade you have to walk around in a circle showing your animals. Then just before that, our principal will hand out a trophy for the best pig, chicken, calf, goat and lamb. :)
